Plumbers tend to have heavier tools than decorators, along with pipework, taps, joints and welding equipment. To keep this lot neat and tidy, van racking is essential.
The only trouble some folks have had with the breakers is that they can be too sensitive. This means that you can trip them up sometimes by simply plugging in a regular appliance. This problem can be fixed, and not all styles of breakers will do it. Still, it’s well worth the pain if sometimes you have to reset the breaker to make sure that you’re home is protected.
A couple of years ago I decided that a good way to maximise the value of our house was to create a more open plan feel to the living areas. Our kitchen is quite a dark room, but it backs on to our light and airy, but under used dining room. Being absolutely sure that the wall between the two rooms wasn’t structural, I could see no reason why we shouldn’t knock through, or at least create a walkway between kitchen and dining room. It would mean a greater feeling of space, and some more natural light in the kitchen.
If the laundry area is not well lit, hire an electrician to install more overhead lights. Who says you can’t have a lamp in the laundry room if that means you can have a brighter area?
Initially you will need to identify a suitable form of free and renewable energy. The two main options are either wind or solar power. There are other choices but they are not as efficient or reliable. Whether you choose to install a wind turbine or an array of solar panels will depend upon your location and budget.
Don’t be afraid to do a bit of snooping here. Find out from friends who did their stairs/plumbing/whatever. Inspect the work. Ask your friend what the price was like. How was the service? Was the tradesman professional and courteous? Would they do business with them again?
It is not rude to ask for a tradesman’s qualifications! With so many rouge traders out there today always ensure that the person you are hiring to do your work has a recognised qualification.
